Kenya

The 3rd stop of our honeymoon was in wild Kenya.

It was a dream come true being able to spend 10 days in this country. There are more than 45 national parks and reserves, mountains, and outdoor adventures at every turn. The landscapes are truly indescribable; in fact, some of the most incredible photos we have ever taken are from our adventures around the bush.

Firstly, We headed to Maasai Mara!

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is well known worldwide for the exceptional wildlife.

A Masai Mara safari is an unmissable and spectacular highlight of our honeymoon. From the gorgeous coast to the vast savannah, this East African country is an unforgettable escape. There are breathtaking panoramas in every direction, a big range of wildlife including the Big Five and a rich cultural heritage to explore. Kenya’s Masai Mara is, without a doubt, one of the greatest safari destinations in Africa and transformed our honeymoon in the honeymoon of our dreams

To get to Maasai Mara from Nairobi, It takes 1hour on the small plane or around 6h by car. we decided to book a private jeep with a driver that could guide us through Kenya. In that way we could also appropriate the size of the country, see the everyday life outside Nairobi and stop in Rift Valley. Our Driver Abu was also with us on game drives and his 20years experience made a difference!

Rift Valley

The Great Rift Valley is a continuous geographic trench, approximately 6,000 kilometres in length, that runs from Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley in Asia to Mozambique in Southeastern Africa. The worlds largest valley is really impressive and when visiting kenya a must to do stop to admire the beautiful nature.

It is very common to stay only 2-3nights in Masai Mara. In our case we moved between 2 different lodges on opposites sides of the National Park. It allowed us to do game drives in different locations and spotting more animals! We spent 5 days in total searching for a wildlife.

Mara Engai

Our first lodge was Mara Engai lodge where we spent 2 nights. Set on the Siria Escarpment, 1000ft above Kenya’s Masai Mara with breathtaking views over Mara Triangle and great wildebeest route. This lodge is everything you can imagine and much more. Perfect for our dream honeymoon.

Then after exploring surroundings, we have driven through the conservancy to the next camp.

Cottars Camp 1920s.

The Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp, without doubt, on 6000 acres of gorgeous landscape. There are two main tents dedicated to the meals and connecting with other guest. This luxurious vintage glamping has a swimming pool and spa area that keep us feeling pampered. We stayed in the deluxe honeymoon tent, it has a breathtaking view over the savannah.

Cottars camp took our safari experience to a completely different approach, the vintage touch and all the history behind this amazing place, made us feel so special and lucky for being there and could live and experience this at least once in life.

Both lodges were so special and very different. Both placed in a well-known animal spotting areas, surrounded by the beautiful Masai Mara National Reserve, we were so lucky to stay in luxurious camps perfect for our dream honeymoon.

Back to Nairobi

Centrally located Nairobi was our hub of the Kenyan adventure. This is where we stayed between exploring North, East and West of the country.

Lake Bogoria

Day after we got back from Mara we drove all the way to Lake Bogoria. Driving for all day is very tiring but you can see and learn so much about the real people’s life. It is either looking and all the cities you pass on the way or chatting, without doubt, the driver who can tell you so much more you can read in media.

Amboseli Park

About 240 km (150 mi) southeast from the capital city Nairobi, Amboseli National Park is the second-most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara National Reserve.

When we tough nothing else could impress us more after Mara, we arrived in our last lodge Satao Elenair?. The view of Kilimanjaro was just breathtaking and all nature around was so different from Masai Mara.

Satao Elerai lodge

Satao Elerai camp is a chic eco-luxury camp in Amboseli, this lodge is located in a quiet, unspoiled, unique setting on a 5000-acre private conservation area 10km’s south-east of Amboseli national park on the foot of Africa’s largest mountain. Mt Kilimanjaro. The highlight in this amazing place was being able to wake up with the view of Kilimanjaro. The most beautiful sunrise we have ever seen.

If you love elephants, Amboseli Park is your number one choice. We have never seen so many elephants together. The park also has views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

In the next posts, we will describe in detail our experience in all of this incredible lodges. That will also include all the safari game drives, without doubt, because it is very much associated to the lodge. Depending on where you stay you might discover completely different wildlife locations.

One thing for sure Kenya was a lifetime experience and ticked a lot of our bucket list wishes.
