Colors of Sintra
Do you recognize this famous colorful castle? It is Palacio da Pena in the small city of Sintra located about 30mins drive from Lisbon, Portugal. It is becoming a very famous place to visit. Claudia is Portuguese and she had visited this castle when she was young. That time it wasn’t busy at all, today you will be surrounded by crowds, but it shouldn’t put you off from visiting Sintra.
Location
Sintra Pena Palace
The castle stands on the top of a hill and on a clear day it can be easily seen from Lisbon. It was built in 1854, but soon after that colors of the castle faded what made it look like a gray ordinary building. By the end of 20th century, it was repainted, giving the castle beautiful colors.
It is a beautiful place to see and definitely worth a trip from Lisbon. We loved being there, walking around and taking photos!
The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal.
Quinta da Regaleira
It is residence in Sintra city, which is also classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Besides of the beautiful building which you can visit inside, but the real mystery is in the gardens of Quina da Regaleira. There is a large network of tunnels connecting different parts of the garden. One of them is 27meters deep subterranean tower with spiral stairway sinking in the ground.
If you haven’t seen yet, you should watch out the video from Portugal, there are some drone shots from Sintra too ! 🙂
